Photography Tip 3

How to Photograph your Kids!?!

The biggest mistake people make when taking photographs is forgetting to think about composition.

Composition is just a fancy way of saying “what you see in the picture”. Try to imagine a picture, any picture will do. The picture is made up of all the things that you can see within the frame. It may have lots of empty space or it may be very cluttered. It may be of a person or a place. A great picture, generally, has had someone think about each thing that has been included (or left out).

Need an example? My mom, bless her heart, took photos of my dress before a school dance. Most of the pictures had too much space above my head and chopped of my feet. Or had my feet and chopped of the top of my head. This is bad composition and luckily it is easily fixed.

When you take a photo, stop and think for a second before pushing the shutter. Take a careful look at what you see in the image. Is the person placed well in the frame? Is there anything growing out of their head? Is that the best place to take the photo. Thinking about these things will undoubtedly help you to create better images and won’t cost anything at all.

Good luck and remember to think before you click!!

Beautiful Flower Images

I had great fun photographing a boquet of flowers that my husband brought home for me the other day. It is easy to be attracted to the bright colours but I found the white flowers even more fascinating. There certainly seems to be an infinite range of white tones and they really show off the texture and lighting.

The boquet also included some red flowers and I will probably tackle them tomorrow. Hope you have enjoyed these for now!

Photography Tip 2

How to Photograph your Kids!?!

I don’t think it matters what type of camera you own. I went to college with a guy who always had to have the latest, greatest and most expensive equipment available, it didn’t help him at all. A great photographer can take an amazing shot with any camera.

Of course, fancy equipment does have some benefits in addition to being fun but it certainly isn’t everything! I would strongly suggest getting to know whichever camera you own. Kids have short attention spans and won’t hold a pose for very long so it is important to be able to get the shot quickly. It also helps to keep the camera in an easily accessible place, ready at a moments notice.

All camera’s have good and bad points (yes, even the most expensive ones!!), so it is helpful to know a little about your own camera. The best way to do this is by using it regularly. A stuck record, I know but it is the fastest way to figure it out. Try using it in different conditions – like, sunny days, cloudy days, at night, indoors, with flash and without etc. Practicing these types of situations will allow you to be better prepared so you can get great pics at any event!

Photography Tip 1

How to Photograph your Kids!?!

The first tip that I want to share with you is probably the most important thing that I have ever learnt and it is by far the easiest thing to do.

TAKE MORE PHOTO’S!!

Simple as that. Get out your camera right now and start snapping. I guarantee that you will take a few duds and some that are fine but there will probably also be at least one that makes you say “aahhh” and smile. Just remember that you have nothing to lose by trying and everything to gain. The more pics you take, the better the chances that you will get lucky and catch that cheeky smile! In my experience, the more I do anything the better I get at it and photography is definitely no exception.

Forget the rules and have some fun. The photo’s don’t have to be perfect so don’t worry about anything but enjoying yourself. After all what is the point if it’s not fun.

Enjoy and let me know if you strike gold!!

Great boat shots!

I went to visit some family in Henley on Thames and I couldn’t resist photographing these boats. The colours are great and I could just imagine the prints on a bathroom wall. It was a great day out and I also got some great shots, overall it was a big success!
